In January 2003, the Queensway
widening proposals included ramp extensions as pictured in the animation
above. Beginning in April of 2004, those ramp extension have been removed
from consideration. In addition, as of June 2004 the list of preferred
alternatives has been further refined and more potential property loss
has been averted. That means that the things in the photographs below
have been spared in part due to public input. Let's have a round of
applause for those who provided feedback in the public meetings and
for the MTO (Ministry of Transport of Ontario) and their consultants
for recognizing the cost versus the benefit was not worth loosing these
things!
On the down side, for many
of these homes and parks there remains the risk of more noise, vibrations
and pollution because the Queensway will move one lane closer to the
homes on portions of all the following residential streets : Burgess,
Dumaurier, Queensgrove, Kilarney, Riddell, Harvey, Hawthorne, Concord,
Hurdman and Lees.
