Citizens for Healthy Communities (CHC)

CHC was originally formed to oppose roadway development in the Alta Vista Corridor.

Mission Statement
To promote innovative and cost-effective approaches to urban development issues that protect the integrity of residential communities, preserve green spaces, sustain a safe and healthy environment, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Objectives
Our objectives for the Alta Vista Corridor are to maximize the existing greenspace, to oppose roadway development in the corridor, to promote alternative transportation solutions for South East Ottawa needs, and to promote light rail transit as the environmentally best alternative to roads. We support light rail as the best, first option for managing future transportation requirements in the city of Ottawa.

Methods of Operation
We promote more public involvement, participation and discussion in Ottawa city planning processes. Initiatives include: local opinion surveys, independent public meetings, public rallies (e.g. Light Rail), public awareness campaigns (e.g. green ribbons campaign), participation on planning committees, and community associations.

Indicate your intended level of involvement - 'Active' or 'Supportive', in the title of your e-mail message. 'Active' means that you are interested in participating actively in the planning and organizing of events. 'Supportive' means that you are interested in a regular summary of issues and want to know when the next event is planned.

City Project Engineer for this Environmental Assessment (EA)

Christopher Gordon was the project engineer througout the project at the city. He has left the city since the EA was forwarded to the provincial ministry of the environment and Steven Stoddard has inherited the file and is the engineer acting as point of contact for this project now.
